Dai Pai Dong

Finest Dim Sum Desires.

With a name inspired by the open food stalls in Hong Kong, the restaurant boasts an amazing waterfront view with a breezy seating right across it. The indoor part of the venue is a dark wooden finish with quite a few asian sculptures; a complete contrast to the terrace.

This fine afternoon, we were exploring their unbelievable weekday lunch promotion of unlimited Dim Sums for AED 98. Little Hungry Ninja was in heaven!

While we pondered the list for 10 minutes only to end up ordering one of each – because, why not! – the lovely staff served Jasmine Tea to compliment perfectly well with the afternoon winter breeze.

Two types of soups, many types of dim sums, fried rice and other asian flavours arrive to the table. The best part was not everything being dumped on the table. Kudos to the staff for being attentive and making sure there are enough dishes on the table to savour and bring the rest along as and when necessary.

Starting off with the wonton soup was alright, but for a more impactful beginning I suggest to go for the steamed dishes, it was the reason why we were there to be honest. Since I was introduced to dim sums in my early 20s, my ever favourite has been the rice rolls. The two options – vegetarian and meat (obviously we ordered both) were just amazing. The textures and flavours were nostalgic.

After having tried all the dishes, we went for round two of a few picked favourites – Chicken Celery Riceroll & Siu Mai. This had to paired with a nice cold pint of Tiger beer (not included in the lunch package). There is a strange connection between afternoon breeze, waterfront views and a cold beer! I ain’t complaining.

There were an assortment of a few fruits, mango with sago and Hong Kong egg tarts for the dessert selection. My favourite were the egg tarts which were not too sweet just as per my liking.

All in all, this was more than just a quick weekday lunch. Dai Pai Dong will have you take a nap until dinner time with this amazing menu and offering.
